Last Wednesday, Mr. Donlon of the Humanities Department took (10) freshman students (selected by their social studies teachers) to the State House for the ‘Day on the Hill’. The Day on the Hill is a celebration of civics and community. The group first attended a morning session which discussed many of the upcoming bills involving education in Massachusetts. The students diligently took notes to prepare what they think would be the most effective points to address when they met with our legislative leaders. The group met up with Medford School Committee Member Paul Ruseau, who contacted our State Representative’s offices to organize times to meet with them, (most Caucus that morning). The students, despite being a bit nervous, spoke eloquently and passionately about their experiences at the Medford Public Schools. They focused on how they could potentially receive funding to support our clubs and outreach programs at the high school. They were polite and communicated exceptionally well with everyone they interacted with that day. Overall, their experience on the hill was a wonderful success!
